NFL Flag Football League FAQ

Q: What equipment do players need?

A: Players receive an official personalized NFL Flag Team jersey as theirs to keep!  The league will provide each team with flag belts and flags as part of the league. You’ll need to wear comfortable athletic clothing and appropriate footwear (cleats are recommended but not required). Mouthguards are also HIGHLY encouraged for added safety.

Q: What are the age groups for the league?

A: The Spring Kickoff Season will feature two age groups grades 3,4 & 5th and 6,7 & 8th.  The correct division for your child should be based upon the current grade of the player.

Q: When are games played?

A: Games will be played on Sundays beginning on June 8th and continuing each week through July 20th.  Each game has two 20-minute halves with a 5-minute halftime.  The 20-minute halves will have a running clock allowing the games to complete in approximately 1 hour.

Q: When are practices?

A: Practices days/times will be determined by coach and team members availability.  This will happen in mid-May.  Each practice will run between 60-90 minutes as determined by the coach.

Q: Can I request to play with a buddy?

A: YES!   Buddy requests can be made during registration, and every effort will be made to allow friends to play together.  If more than 3 friends are requesting to be on the same team, we ask that a parent become a coach or assistant of that team.

A: The Spring Kickoff Season will consist of 2 weeks of practice in May with a 6-game season beginning Sunday June 8th.  Each team will play 6 regular season games and participate in league playoffs.

A: YES!  The Superbowl champs in each division will receive rings after the big game!

ABOUT THE GAME OF FLAG FOOTBALL

Q: What is NFL Flag Football?

A: NFL Flag Football is a fun, fast-paced, non-contact version of football designed for players of all ages and skill levels. Instead of tackling, players wear flags attached to a belt, and the objective is to stop the ball carrier by pulling one or both of their flags off. It’s a great way to enjoy football while emphasizing skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Q: Is there any contact allowed in NFL Flag Football?

A: No, the first rule of flag football is straightforward: there’s no contact allowed. This includes tackling, diving, blocking, and screening. The game focuses on agility and strategy, with players pulling flags to stop the ball carrier instead of making physical tackles.

Q: How do you “tackle” in flag football?

A: To “tackle” the person with the ball, a defender must pull one or both of the flags off the ball carrier’s belt. Once a flag is removed, the play is stopped, and the down is over.

A: Yes, all referees in our league are NFL Flag trained. They undergo specific training to understand the rules, ensure fair play, and maintain a safe, enjoyable environment for all participants.

Q: What is the format of the games?

A: Games are 5-on-5 and consist of two halves with a set time limit (e.g., 20-minute halves). The exact format may vary by age group or division.

Q: How are the rules enforced?

A: Our NFL Flag-trained referees enforce the rules consistently and fairly. They’re there to ensure the game runs smoothly, remains non-contact, and stays fun for everyone involved.
